Tim Armstrong adalah seorang Guitarist, Musisi, dan Penulis lagu band-band punk rock Rancid, Operation Ivy, Downfall, dan Transplants. Dia juga pemilik dan operator dari Hellcat Records.
Tim Armstrong memiliki dua saudara-Jeff dan Greg; Greg adalah seorang tentara. Pada usia enam tahun, Armstrong bertemu Matt Freeman saat bermain Little League Baseball di California. Freeman menjadi salah satu teman baiknya dan bass player untuk Rancid. Armstrong dan Freeman tumbuh bersama di Albany, California. Merangkul budaya punk selama sekolah menengah, Band favorite Armstrong The Clash dan The Ramones.

Salah satu kelompok pertama yang Armstrong adalah Basic Radio. Setelah Basic Radio dibubarkan, ia Membentuk Band punk ska Operation Ivy dengan julukan "Lint" dari awal pada tahun 1987 dan band ini bubar pada tahun 1989. Tak lama kemudian, Armstrong membantu Dance Hall Crashers. Ia bertemu dengan Matt Freeman di Downfall. Pada tahun 1991, Armstrong melanjutkan membentuk Band Punk Rock Rancid dengan bassist Matt Freeman (yang sebelumnya bermain dengan Armstrong dalam Operation Ivy, Downfall, dan Dance Hall Crashers). Brett Reed adalah punk skate lokal yang hanya bermain drum selama enam bulan ketika Armstrong dan Freeman memintanya untuk bergabung dengan kelompok mereka. Reed kemudian digantikan oleh Branden Steineckert (sebelumnya di The Used) pada tahun 2006. Steineckert telah mengatakan bahwa Rancid adalah salah satu grup favoritnya dan salah satu pengaruh musik terbesarnya.
Pada tahun 1999, Armstrong mengundang Rob Aston ( "Skinhead Rob") untuk bekerja pada beberapa album solo Armstrong, dan keduanya bekerja sama menulis dan merekam musik. Mereka membentuk kelompok Transplants dengan Travis Barker (Blink-182) dan merilis debut album pada 22 Oktober 2002. Juga pada tahun 2002, Armstrong mengisi vokal untuk Tom DeLonge's (juga dari blink-182) proyek sampingan Tom yaitu Box Car Racer, pada lagu "Cat Like Thief". Album kedua Transplants, Haunted Cities, dirilis pada tanggal 21 Juni 2005. Transplants bubar pada 16 Januari 2006.
Di tahun 2006 Armstrong juga banyak memebatu musisi lain. Dia menyumbangkan vokal / gitar di The Lordz, Box Car Racer, Bad Religion, Cypress Hill, Stubborn All-Stars, Head Automatica, Fefe Dobson, The Matches, NOFX, Time again, Time Alone, dan Lars Frederiksen and Bastards ( proyek samping Lars Frederiksen selain di Rancid ). Tim bekerja sama dengan Pink, The Aggrolites, Gwen Stefani dan Kelly Osbourne. Tim juga telah menghasilkan beberapa album, termasuk album pertama AFI ( Answer That and Stay Fashionable-1995 ), Viking oleh Lars Frederiksen and The Bastards dan dua lagu untuk Matches, "You (don't) know me" di Decomposer dan "Yankee dalam Chip Shop" di A Band di Hope.
